As the temperatures continue to climb throughout the summer, not having working air conditioning in your vehicle is a big, big problem. However, breakdowns in the system can present themselves in a few different ways.
Let’s take a look at some of the ways that a car’s AC can stop working and what you can do about it. Let’s dive in!
The Air Coming Out is Hot
If you’ve turned on the AC and only hot air is coming out, then there are a couple of issues that could be in play. One of the simplest is that there is a leak somewhere within the system from which the precious refrigerant has leaked.
Without ample refrigerant, the air will not be cold. This can be solved with a simple recharge of your system, if in fact, that is the issue. However, ongoing leaks will continually deplete the refrigerant in your system, so it may be wise to have a professional take a look.
Nothing is Coming Out At All
If nothing is coming out of your car’s AC system at all, then the problem could be electrical. It’s possible that the electrical components within your system have either worn out, gotten disconnected, or simply have stopped functioning properly. If this is the case, then you definitely need to bring it in to have a professional take a look.
Another reason that the AC might not be blowing is related to the fans, which may have stopped working. Commonly, this is due to a burnt out resistor; but other issues can also cause a broken fan.
