Every year there are nearly 290,000 new cases of breast cancer reported, and that number is just way too high. Cancer, and illnesses in general, is a fact of life, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything we can do about it. Here at Ken’s Automotive & Transmissions, we will be doing our part to fight breast cancer. For the entire month of October, we will be giving away free quality brake pads or shoes. All you need to pay for is labor and any other necessary parts. 10% of all proceeds will go towards research for the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund.
Success in Previous Years
This isn’t the first time we’ve done Brakes for Breasts, in fact, this will be our 6th year participating in the fundraiser. The first year the fundraiser was held, it only included 5 independent auto repair shops and they raised $10,000, but 2018 saw 138 independent auto repair shops participate and they raised over $141,000. The grand total raised since 2011 is $747,771.70, and it’s all gone to research.
The Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Vincent Tuohy and his team at the Cleveland Clinic have been working hard for years to find a vaccine, and have even successfully tested a Breast Cancer Prevention Vaccine and is looking to start Phase 1 trials. They are also researching vaccines for ovarian, prostate, and other cancers.
Let’s Reach $100,000
It may seem like a bit of a lofty goal, but we think it’s one that our auto repair shops across the country can achieve. This is a grassroots initiative, so we’re counting on you to help us out by passing this along to all of your friends. We want to support Brakes for Breasts as much as we possibly can.
We Support Our Community
Here at Ken’s Automotive & Transmissions, we understand that our customers aren’t just that, they’re our friends, family, and community members too, and we treat them as such. Whenever possible we try to give back as much as we can, in addition to Brakes for Breasts we have also participated in Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots Frederick, The Patty Pollatos Fund, Inc., The Down Rider Fund, and many other great charitable organizations.
We hope that you can come by this October and let us help you out with some free brake pads or anything else that you might need done.
